Is Byterati really free?

Yes — completely. There are no in-app purchases, no ads, no subscriptions, and no accounts.

Where do the books come from?

Byterati searches Project Gutenberg for public-domain book texts and LibriVox (hosted on the Internet Archive) for public-domain audiobooks.

How do I use the neural voices?

Open the voice menu in the reader and download the neural voice model once (about 312 MB). After that it runs entirely on your device, with no internet needed. Apple's built-in voices work immediately without any download.

The neural voice option says it needs a newer device. Why?

The on-device neural voices require a device with an Apple A14 / M1 chip or later. On earlier devices Byterati uses Apple's built-in voices instead — everything else works the same.

Does reading work offline?

Yes. Once a book is opened or downloaded (and the neural voice model is downloaded, if you want it), you can read and listen with no internet connection.

Is my reading private?

Yes. Byterati has no accounts and collects no data. See our Privacy Policy for details.

How do I remove a downloaded book?

In the Library, swipe a book or use its actions menu to delete the downloaded copy.
